Debbie Gile has been an enthusiastic spinner
and dyer for 25 years in New Hampshire. The recent introduction of
the craft of needle felting was a natural fit, allowing her to transfer
her interest in doll making to a material so familiar to her. She
has taught this easy to learn skill to many students at Fletcher Farm
in Vermont, WOW 2005, area fiber shops and private art studios. |

Using a simple tool and a collection of
dyed wool fibers, we will "paint" a 12" x 15"
portrait of Santa, an elf or an angel in a "bas relief"
style, sculpting some dimensional features and using color blending
to create shadows that suggest depth to other parts of the face. Students
should bring a small pair of sharp scissors and may wish to provide
bits of novelty yarns or feathers to enhance their project. |

Needle felt a 12" tall character
doll - Wicked Witch, Puss in Boots, a Woodland Fairy, whoever resides
in your imagination. We will start by sculpting a face, add a body
you can pose and complete the doll with an appropriate costume, or
not as you choose, all made with a simple tool and puffs of wool dyed
in luscious colors. Please bring a sense of fun, a pair of small sharp
scissors, inspirational pictures, and any added adornments you might
like. We can attach novelty yarns and feathers with the felting needle,
or stitch on beads and charms |
